Mary pointed out to me last week my web log does not have an option to leave a comment, so I figured it out and added that feature this afternoon.

Good News Bad News.

The good news is that last week on Friday, my husband was offered a job.

The bad news is that
A) The job is bill collecting, on the phone, for a professional collection agency and
B) They said he had to start Monday, just 3 days away.

I even told him I would totally respect your decision if you say no.
But he said yes, and so we've been totally juggling getting our kids to and from school, and he's being trained in , this week, to what really is just a low-paying electronic sweat shop.

They can make a comission from what they've collected, if they collect enough, but he's already finding out that the only way many of the other employees there actually collect that quota and keep the commission is by working unpaid over time hours... and making illegal statements to customers over the phone. We do need the money...but I have given him my total permission to quit any time he feels like it.

It snowed about 6 inches yesterday, and I parked on the street and shoveled out our driveway for 2 straight hours after I got off work. I was just finishing up when my husband came home . My back is in total agony, even now. My husband offered me a Vicodin, left over after a recent emergency root canal he had a few weeks ago, and me, the tea-totaler, I TOOK IT , and slept great last night!

No more emails or anything from my relatives in Norway, lately. but I DID find a man in the on-line California white pages with the same first and last name as my grandmother's brother , so I wrote him a letter last week, and hope to find out if he is my grandmother's very elderly brother. He'd be in his late 80's , I'm thinking, if it's him. Maybe I'll find out what happened to that part of the family.

Last week the volunteer coordinator at the Adult Baisc Education center where I teach ESL once a week agreed she would arrange to have my class moved out of the room with the pop machine, so people wouldn't just walk in and out and interrupt us the whole time. So this week we were moved... in to the room with the hot water machine for everyone's cocoa and tea. Next time I hear some ignorant redneck say Why dont' those people speak English, I will tell him I think I have a few ideas why.

This Sunday I pulled on an extra pair of wool socks, pulled my husband's set of skis out of storage, and cross country skied across a local park, several times. It was my first time to ever try to do that! It was pretty fun, although I can't see why some people devote their entire lifestyle around it.

Now it's too cold to go outside at all. It's been below zero, every day for the last 3 days now.

Saturday night our friends came over and brought over a big cake, even though it was one of theirs' birthday the day before. I mean, we should have bought the cake , right? It's fun to have people over.

Monday night I took my husband and kids to the Sons of Norway Christmas pot luck. they were the only children there, even though the email said to bring your children. I think I'm the youngest member. Everyone else is very elderly. My kids liked the snacks, but otherwise they were very bored. My rye krisp and salmon (from Cub Food grocery store) seemed to go over very well though.

Next Saturday we've invited over a college student from our old school, and his room mate. This boy has been instant messaging me about my old school since before he was even accepted to it. He arrived like 4 months ago and has been attending ever since. And I only live about 20 miles from my old college. And I haven't even visited him once or anything! I'm glad he and his room mate are coming. I'll feel really bad if he goes home for winter break and I haven't even met him in person.

My husband has a lot of job interviews lined up, all of a sudden, but still no job offers.

More email from Norway. I'm really touched that these relatives who barely know who I am are willing to write me an email and send pictures, especially since I think no one from the USA branch of the family has had any connection to them at all since I visited my Grandmothers's cousin Gerd, and her husband Validmar, since 1985!
Their pictures are so beautiful, the only reason I have to believe that these really are pictures my relatives have taken of themselves and their home, and not just pictures torn from a tourist brochure, is that I can see so much ressemblence in their faces, to relatives I grew up with in Washington State. One man looks just like a recent picture of my Uncle Bob, one older woman has my grandmother's smile, and one little boy looks like my 6 year old son's twin! I was so suprised to see Syttnde Mai pictures of these same people wearing bunads, I though no one did that any more!
