From an Email to my old high school friend with kids:
If there's one thing I can talk about all day long, it's tv.
Lazy Town, Sporticus, hot. I did some research on him. He's Iceland's Michael Jordan. Their top athelete and top entrepeneur. I already forget his name, though. Magnus something.
Wiggles, medium. Anthony's OK. Murray's so bug-eyed he looks like he could be a Riggs, Jeff Fatt needs to put on a few. And I don't remember the other guy.
Capitan Feathersward, however, red hot! Ever see him out of character? You should.
Once our 6 year old son had been in Kindergarten for a while , however, and needed to prove that he had distanced himeself from being a little Baby, The Wiggles are officially off his list, as are Blues Clues, Dora, and Bob the Builder. All formerly his favorites. We recently donated all his old Blues Clues and McDonaldland videos to St Vincent de Paul...but I kept Blues Big Musical movie, arguing that its got Ray Charles as one of the voices. But we all know that's not really why I kept it at all, don't we.
I once found a message board of Steve Burns fans. And I am not joking. I read it ever few days for a few weeks until I couldn't stand it any more. But the moms were all bragging about how they'd gone to Steve Burns indie rocker shows, and stayed behind to make him sign their boob with a marking pen as if he were Mick Jagger. Then the other moms got jealous. Then one mom who lived in New York and was going to see an upcoming show arranged for a lot of the other moms to SCAN their BOOBS in their scanner, send the image to her, and have her print it, so she could print all the boobs, take them with her to Steve's show, and have him sign them all so she could return them all to their owners. That still blows my mind. I signed off that message board for good though, when one of them posted a message to the others to say, Ok guys I just posted one of my erotic fan fiction pieces on the Blues Clues Erotica web site. Blues Clues Erotica web site??? That was too much for me.
I bet Steve's much-larger, but younger, uni-brow brother Joe just smokes pot all day and doesn't feed the dog. That's what I think. How would I know? Andrew protests loudly when it comes on now. If Steve came home from college to live with Blue and Joe again, Steve would be embittered by the alientation of the art school environment, he would just lock himself in his room except to come out for bowls of cereal, and Joe would have girls over.
Joe would be better if her were played by Jack Black. I love Jack Black.
Want to know who else is cool ? The two Veggie Tales creaters, Mike Nawrocki and Phil Vischer. If they had a church I would totally go to it.If you haven't watched the dvd special features and watched these two guys interviewed, you should!
Both my kids are beyond the early morning Nick tv now. But we watch Sponge Bob and Fairly Odd Parents all the time. And Drake and Josh and reruns of the Amanda Show. If I were 1/3 my age, I'd think that Drake was pretty cute...and have you seen how ripped Josh got over the summer! He must be working out! I hope it was his choice, though. I hope it wasn't anti-fat network executives threatening him.
Yes we used to watch Dexter. My favorite one was where Dexter and Dee Dee went around with one of those old fashioned sticky label makers, putting thier name on everything. And we always used to watch the Power Puff girls, I liked the one where Mo Jo Jo Jo had to buy some eggs at the grocery store, and it took him so long, he forgot to plot against the Power Puff Girls, and then they picked that afternoon to come play in his yard, and the one where Mo Jo was released from prison just so he could baby sit them. I did see a few episodes of Robot Jones. I recognised the animation from School House Rock, I dont' know if it was the same animators or just someone who grew up watching them. My 11 year old daughter and I learned a new way to mulitply by 9, by watching that show. Face both your open palms toward you. Count your fingers all the way to ten. Lower the finger that corresponds to the number you want to multiply by nine, like lower your seventh finger if you want to know 9 times 7. Now see how there are 6 fingers to the left of the lowered finger, and 3 to the right? 9 x 7 = 63, get it? Well we enjoyed it anyway.
The last "new" very little kids show I liked was the one with all the British Bath Toys, and the shark who always inserts Arr Arr Arr in to his sentances. He was cool . But the Star Fish Toy who always says Splish Splash Splosh is very annoying.
I used to watch Shining Time Station videos when I was recently graduated, recently married, living in St Cloud, where I didn't know anyone.I love Ringo Starr's speaking voice. That Sir Totham Hat, if that was his name, was a pompous idiot though. I always thought those different kinds of train engines just perpetuated the British class system, and I thought to myself if I were English I don't know that I'd want my kid internalizing any of this.
My 11 year old daughter and my 6 year old son found a paper clip in the back seat of my car, yesterday afternoon, so they decided to fight over it ! Not joking. They argued over a paper clip! And when my son won it...he unraveled it in to a long stick and poked my daughter in the arm with it. I suppose I should have seen that coming but somehow I just didn't.
