The weather has been nice and hot the way I like it.
Saturday the 4 of us visited a group camp site about 45 minutes from our house, where friends of ours were camping. We played volley ball, even me. Everyone was very kind, because I'm not very athletic , and some of those people are in city leagues and have a lot of experience.
Unfortunately, someone's big dog ran out on to the court and bit my husband in the side. The only reason anyone can think of why, was because he had run near the dog to retrieve the ball, and came between the dog, and a lady who had been tossing him bits of food. The owner of the dog attacked the dog, bit his ear, and told him if he ever bites another person, he'll be put down. And since everyone was dog lovers including my husband, everyone worried more about the dog. My husband got right out there and played about 3 more games with his shirt torn open at the side and his wound still bleeding. Then we drove me and the kids home...and my husband bandaged up his side and drove right back for more ball , and an over night role-playing board game. He got back home at about 3 am !
The whole time, it was about 98 degrees. We brought a cooler of bottled water with us, and just drank non stop water. My children enjoyed playing with the super powered squirt guns people had brought, and making me fill them by the old-fashioned hand pump the camp ground had.
Yesterday afternoon, I tried to take my now-traditional long, Sunday afternoon walk, to a park with a lake-side walking path. I put Rollins Band "Nice" album on my CD player. And I barely made it half way to the park! I think I got sun stroke or something. I just couldn't go on! I had to turn around and go home! That's never happned to me before!
My husband put in his two week notice almost 2 weeks ago.He has 3 more days of work to go, then he is going to spend the next 6 weeks staying home with our kids, before school starts, and doing his job search. He was never happy there.
Last Wednesday the 4 of us attended a Sons of Norway picnic at a park near our home. I was happy to see that someone just started up a lodge so close to home. In the last few months, I've driven to Anoka to visit Sons of Norway lodge meetings, but that's so far away. About 2 months ago I wrote a letter to my grandmother's cousins in Bergen, Norway, knowing that there was slim chance either one of them would still be alive. But about 2 weeks ago, my letter was returned to me, unopened, marked 'addressee unknown' or something like that. So I take it they're dead now. And if I want to find out what ever happened to their kids and grandchildren that I met when I visited them in Bergen in 1985, I might have to become one of those pathetic middle-aged geneologists who puts an ad in the paper or starts checking city records or something.
I have been made one of only 3 web site administrators for our whole 100-employee division of our software company! So far, by the end of last week, I had figured out how to use the corporate template wizard to update an existing document, but I still haven't succesfully added a new document yet. That will be my project for the day.
